In order to understand humanities we must first start with the fundamentals. The word humanism comes from the Latin humanities, meaning culture. But, humanities also express the concern in human life of ancient Greeks and Romans. Humans believed that humanities pertained to their Gods. Humanities also include science, mathematics, the arts and philosophy. Therefore, Humanities is the study of human kind, meaning our surroundings. Humanities are a way that we look upon ourselves in relation to history. Art is the things in our environment we appreciate and consider beautiful. It does not have to be just a flower or tree but can be a building or sculpture. Art is a form of expression, emotion, creativity, history and individuality because it tells us who created it. Plus, it is a part of music, architecture, philosophy and literature because it expresses a part of someone past, present and future, which helps us throughout our lives in one way or another.
