Imposing Oil Taxes I. Introduction One of the major issues in the United States today, is the problems with gasoline and oil prices. Gasoline is the bloodline that keeps America moving. Our personal vehicles alone guzzle 65 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel each year, and that number is projected to increase by 2.6 percent each year. With most of the oil coming from the Middle East, OPEC has manipulated the prices consumers must pay. It does not seem that there are many other options but to make ourselves less dependent on gasoline and more dependent on renewable and domestic resources. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by first forcing consumers to become less dependent on gas. If consumers must pay more for something they are going to buy less; a simple supply and demand concept. By imposing government regulated taxes on gasoline, prices will increase at an even higher then they already are. In response to this increase, consumers will have no other choice but to seek other alternatives such as hydrogen powered cars, public transportation, and conservatio......
