Without an understanding of stereotype within sub-cultural context, we are perpetually looking for media images to model ourselves after because we are insatiable consumers of the prepackaged “Cool”. I am not an expert in Hip hop, but I found myself disposed to share its cultural-bias point of view towards an ethno-racial stereotype. As media being reflection of society, in America where a so called “double standard” existed, rap music dominate the street-urban culture and Hip Hop becomes the mainstream production that represents a strong realm of joint African-American and Puerto Rican culture. Many rappers among Black and Brown have attempted to reflect their “Ghetto” lifestyle through this particular contemporary style of music, yet their image are being commercially labeled and projected, though they have succeeded in reaching audience through fashion mainstream. Most audience are still convicted to the falsehood of Hip hop “Authenticity”.
