ENG 101 essay #3 Prof: Daniel Lynch October 27, 2005 The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini This novel transforms the life of a young boy who`s name is Amir. Born in Afghanistan, Amir and Hassan grow up together in Afghanistan like brothers. Amir is the son of a wealthy businessman, a Sunni Muslim, a pashtun, and he`s educated and reads voraciously. Amir`s father, Baba, is a man who represents the Afghani people and their culture in a good manner. Hassan`s father is the servant to Amir`s father, and Hassan is a Shia Muslim, a hazara and he`s uneducated. Neither boy has a mother and they spend their boyhoods roaming the streets of Kabul together. Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan and it is a city in east central of Afghanistan. While I was reading the story, I realized that the kite running tournament in the story, The Kite Runner, and how Amir won the tournament, describes The Afghanis` culture and the relationship between Amir and Hassan.
