Amish Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Last summer my family went to the southern part of Indiana. Throughout Paoli and Mitchell there were several colonies of Amish. When I first became aware of the Amish the first time I ever visited Indiana about 6 years ago I did respond in an ethnocentric manner. I looked at the way that we thing do and thought how weird they were for not doing the same thing. I could not believe they did not want/let people take pictures of them. I could not understand how they could live without the common things we think we have to have on a daily bases.
The Amish dress in a very simple style, avoiding all but the most basic ornamentation. Clothing is made at home of plain fabrics and is primarily dark in color, including shades of purple, blue, wine, brown, grey and black. Amish men in general wear straight-cut suits and coats. Their pants are worn with suspenders; they are not allowed to wear belts nor sweaters, neckties and gloves.
