“Death of A Salesman” by Arthur Miller, is a tragic play about a traveling salesman. Willy Loman reflects on and experiences his life while trying to reach his ultimate goal of obtaining the American dream. His obsession with success and his constant reminiscing of the past, ultimately contribute to Willy’s defeat in the end. Through out the play Willy continues to overlook reality by ignoring the present. He spends most his time living in the past and thinking of the future than dealing with what is right in front of him. “I have friends. I can park my car in any street…. And the cops protect it like their own” (?). Willy’s distortion of the past keeps him from seeing that he is leading himself down of path of failure. Another example of Willy’s distorted view of things is evident at his funeral. Willy has this vision of having a big extravagant funeral with a lot of people, but at the end when he dies Linda says, “Why didn’t anyone come. . . Where are all the people he knew? (?). This unrealistic view of people in his past is another key factor of Willy’s downfa......
