Even though the character Atticus Finch is a strong and influential figure in the novel ‘To kill a mockingbird’, his own children do not seem to recognise his skills, and they often complain about his inadequacy. In reality though they are lucky as Atticus has instilled in Jem and Scout good morals and greater understanding of life, through his many valuable lessons. Atticus has taught his children the morals of honesty and prejudice; they learn to apply these lessons through the two characters Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. Atticus’s influence in Jem and Scout’s life has helped them gain greater understanding for both of people, especially Boo. Atticus has contributed to his children’s strong development by encouraging in Jem and Scout, a strong sense of morality and justice.
