Title As research in memory has grown expansively in the past few decades, especially in recent years, scientists are now focussing on the specific processes involved in memory. In general, memory can be categorized into source and item memory. The term source refers to the spatial, temporal and social conditions in which one encodes a memory (Johnson, Hashtroudi & Lindsay, 1993). On the other hand, the term item, or fact, memory pertains only to the actual information that is stored. Furthermore, it is believed that the various aspects of memory employ different processing mechanisms in specialized areas of the brain (Glisky, Polster & Routhieaux).
