Illustrators in the 1930s In this essay you will be reading about illustrators in the 1930s. Illustrators in the 1930s were very well respected as well as very well known. There were several very important illustrators in the 1930s such as Norman Rockwell, Grant wood, and Thomas Hart Benton. Best known for his illustrations in The Saturday Evening Post, Norman Rockwell was born on February third, 1894. Norman was a very prominent illustrator through out the 1930s and was very well known. If not the most respected and popular Illustrator in the 1930s he was definitely up there. Norman got his first break through in 1912 at age 18 with his first book illustration for C.H Claudy’s Tell Me Why. His most famous or well-known piece is called freedom of speech where Rockwell literally illustrates freedom of speech without using any words. The next, Grant Wood, who was born in 1891 in Stone City, Iowa. What’s interesting about wood is that no one discovered him he got himself discovered.
