Jo from ‘Little Women’ Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The movie ‘Little Women’ follows the lives of four girls as they grow up during the Civil War era in Massachusetts. The family is neither rich nor poor, but somewhere in between. The sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, are encouraged by their courageous and strong-willed mother, Marmee, while their father is away at war. The girls share a close bond and many adventures, both good and bad. They get their strength from each other to overcome many obstacles and learn the value of family and love as they grow into women. Each of the girls search for her own self identity, but Jo seems to struggle with this the most as she is the least ladylike. She is the main character, and most of the action revolves around her. She doesn’t want their childhoods to end and loves her family greatly. Jo, the second oldest March sister, has many dreams and is the most independent of the girls. She has a passion for writing and hopes to become a professional writer. She organizes and writes plays for the girls to perform in the attic.
