Slanguage Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Widely used today by teenagers, slang terminology is becoming increasingly popular throughout the United States. When children become young adults, they develop a need to cultivate a sense of individualism, which is where slang comes in. Teens believe that usage of slang shows a sign of independence. Some slang words mean opposite from the literal meaning. For example: “sick,” “ill,” and “nasty”; you would think those words mean “disgusting” or “gross,” but their meanings in slang actually mean “awesome” or “great.” Other slang terms can just be regular phrases from everyday life blended into a single word, such as “ai’ight,” which is short for “all right,” and “wassup,” which is short for “What’s up?” Another example is “fo’ shizzle” which means “for sure.” These slang words annoy adults because they can be a form of a private joke between the users of the language. For instance, calling someone a “shasta” means they’re unattractive, yet anyone unfamiliar with the term would have no idea what the meaning was. A new slang term is “crunk,” which means......
