Why is Martin Luther King Jr. considered great? King, one of the most influential social rights leaders because of his religious message, nonviolent means, and ability to inspire, can frequently be criticized because of his sometimes immoral lifestyle. Often his humanity is lost in his legend. As a society, it is popular to turn history-changing persons in to mythic characters, where imperfections are criticized. King’s original reluctance to join the bus boycott movement can often bring up question of his willingness to make a change. The issue of his plagiarism can also inspire questioning of his true principles, along with his history of a party lifestyle. In reality, King was not perfect, but that does not take away from the greatness of his changes during the civil rights movement. King brought a religious aspect to the civil rights movement, which is one of his biggest contributions.
