Feeney 1 Jasmyn Feeney 1/19/06 Essay #1 The Grading Game What does the grading system do for learning? Does it focus attention or just numb students minds to what is really important? One may ask, how are students suppose to engage in learning activities when we are not interested in learning about that subject? Plain and simple, students cannot. Most people can only learn if the subject grabs their attention. For instance, I hate, ok not hate, I loathe science. It is not because it is science; It is just because of the way my teacher did not take any time trying to explain the information she assigned my class. When am I ever going to pursue in science, considering I cannot retain the information that I am being taught in that class? My guess is, never. Learning is up to individuals because they have to be willing to want to learn, not forced. Yet, teachers keep giving a couple days notice for big exams and homework to be due. Students cannot learn in that time frame when they are not interested in a certain subject; Sure they can memorize, but they will not be able to......
