Hate crimes are not recent phenomena. The concept has existed for centuries. During World War II entire Jewish families were wiped out under Hitlers plan for a pure nation. The bible is full of hate crime stories that target the Jewish religion. Some people believed that just because a person had been born into a certain caste in India, it would give them leeway to perform hate crimes on that particular person. The three major areas that I will discuss in this paper are sexual orientation, race, and religion. The victimization of the people in these major hate crime target areas can be based on two theoretical explanations of repeat victimization. The theories encompass risk heterogeneity and event dependence. Risk heterogeneity theorizes that people are targeted for hate crimes due to a flag. They are picked out and are attractive to the same offenders time and time again. Event dependence states that an offender who targets a particular group for hate crimes is more likely to repeat the offense......
