Kenneth Morgan in his book captures the early American history and demonstrates how it leads to the creation of colonial North America and to the birth of United States. He is mainly concentrating on XVII and XVIII century describing the step by step process of America¡¦s transformation from being agriculturally oriented to pre-industrial society. He mentions how the British traders began to invest in land and resources, how the land used to be abundant before and how the labour forces needed to make natural resources productive as well as how the African enslavement ended up to be a better investment than native Indians.
He talks about the problem of disagreement between the British and the natives which was quite a big issue for the plantation owners. The basic three reasons why the enslavement of native Indians failed was due to: the conflict of different ways of farming, cultural differences as well as the diseases which in very short period of time killed nearly half of the population.
