¡°The Mermoirs of Lady Hyegyong¡± is autobiography written by Lady Hyegyong who lived through series of misfortunes during her life time. She survived through one of the biggest controversial events that took place in Korean history. The autobiography consists of four different parts which was written in different time period. Lady Hyegyong was the wife of Prince Sado who was the son of King Yongjo. Her husband was guilty in numerous cases of murders and was ordered to die in a rice chest by his own father. According to historical facts, Lady Hyegyong¡¯s father was the one who made King Yongjo to kill his own child. However, in this book, she denies all the facts and she claims that her family did not have anything to do with the death of the Prince. There are two main reasons why she wrote this autobiography. One of the reasons was that she wanted to prove her father and the other family members were innocent about her husband¡¯s death, and the other reason was to prevent her descendants from the false charge of Prince Sado¡¯s death.
