The word art comes from the Latin word ars, which literally means skill or craft. In todays life, most things we use, is man-made and therefore an object of art. There are two main categories of art: fine arts and applied arts. Fine arts are referred to paintings, sculptures, movies and other objects. They have little of no practical functions and are seen as visual pleasures, which communicate ideas and/or feelings. Architecture is a mix between fine and applied art, for it offers visual pleasure as well as practical usage. Applied art is often seen and described as the design of functional objects like cars, buildings etc. Art can also be defined as a skill with which one produces fine or applied arts. An artist for instance has to apply a specific art to therefore produce art. Art appeals to human emotions. It can arouse visual or moral feelings and it is a good way of communicating these feelings.
