After reading the assignment on pages 8-11 in the text book I have become more familiar with the scientific method. Prior to this course I had no knowledge of this method. The scientific method commonly used in Biology and other sciences, is the basis for scientific inquiry and consists of fours interrelated operations. These operations are observation, hypothesis, experiment and conclusion. An observation is the noting of a specific phenomenon. This leads to the forming of a hypothesis. A hypothesis is a deduction based on prior observations. This is offered as an explanation for the observed phenomenon. The hypothesis must lead to predictions that can be tested by other controlled observations. These are experiments and they produce results that either support or contest they hypothesis. Scientific methods arent used just to generate new knowledge, but can also be used to solve everyday problems. One every day situation in which I can apply the scientific method is the following.
