To Travel or Not To Travel In Hibickina and Kika’s Off The Map, and Joe Sacco’s Palestine, both texts illustrate the American privilege of the traveler, and the consequences of their attitudes toward the foreigner, by incorporating a journalistic point of view throughout the text. Surprisingly, in both of the texts Off The Map and Palestine the author’s perception/attitude toward the foreigner creates certain complications on their intended stand point. The situation that the characters are in has a lot to do with how the characters feel about the foreigner. These American privileges and attitudes can be witnessed when Hibickina and Kika are talking about the young girls, when they first arrive at le wagon, and when they are leaving their stay at le wagon. The American privilege and attitudes can be witnessed in “Palestine” when Sacco is at the furniture place with Ammar, when Sacco is in Sameh’s bedroom, when Sacco buys Sameh a falafel and when Sacco is with the women at the end of Palestine.
