Its hard to imagine a 16 year old murdered because they were caught in the cross fire of a teenage gang shooting or even an 11 year old who was killed by someone only 4 years older then her, unfortunately this is becoming a harsh reality in todays society. In the year 2002 alone, more then 877,700 teens ranging from the ages of 10 to 24 were injured from violent acts and approximately 1 in 13 of these cases required some sort of hospitalization (CDC 2004). Teen violence has become a growing epidemic, something that has token over Americas youth causing the statistics to rise increasingly high; nearly three times as many teenagers and children under 10 die from gunfire out beating the number of police officers killed in the line of duty (Childrens Defense Fund, 2002) and in 2001, 5,486 adolescents from the ages of 10 to 24 years old were murdered an average of 15 each day (CDC 2004).
