Comparison Essay
In this essay I am comparing four different poems. Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan, Half-caste, Unrelated Incidents and Hurricane Hits England. All of these poems are about portraying their shared identity.
The language is very different in all of these poems, as in presents from my aunts she uses Standard English as if she doesnt want to be of a mixed race but could just choose one. In half-caste the poet has decides not to use Standard English. He doesnt use the standard form of punctuation, the poet also uses the lower case were Standard English would use capital letters. Even proper names like Picasso or tchaikovsky are written in this way, its as if he wants to make a point about how he doesnt need to follow the rules of the English language if hes not English. He writes also in a Caribbean dialect yu instead of you, or dem for them.
