Mahatma Gandhi Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Hero Project Mohandas K. Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869. He was born to two Hindu parents in western India in the state of Gujarat. He entered an arranged marriage at the age of 13. He married Kasturbai Makaji who was also 13. His parents sent him to London to study law so he would have a good job and make a good living. In 1891 he was admitted into the inner temple. He went to South Africa where he developed his nonviolent protests. He was jailed many times for protesting against how the Indians there were being treated. Before he left in 1915 he had changed the lives of the Indians there a lot. When he returned to India he became the leader of the fight for independence from Great Britain. He still practiced his nonviolent protest. When they did gain their independence in 1947 the country split into India and Pakistan. In 1948 at the age of 79 Gandhi was assassinated while walking threw a garden in New Delhi to take evening prayers.
