We've all seen a version of A Christmas Carol. Whether it was the Disney version with Mickey Mouse or one of the many movies based on it. We all know and love the poor and kind Mr.Bob Cratchit and who can forget the evil Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge? And everyone loved sweet Tiny Tim. But what do we know of the author of the original story, Charles Dickens? Does anyone know of his life, his childhood, or any of his other works? I do. February 7, 1812 in Landport, Hampshire Elizabeth Barrow and her husband John Dickens had a baby boy. His name was Charles Dickens. In 1814 The Dickens family moved to London and then to Chatham. Charles received his first bit of education in Chatham. William Giles was his first teacher and he gave special attention to Dickens, because he was amazed by his quick progress. When Dickens was around the age of ten, his father was imprisoned and the young boy had to leave school to help his mother. He worked in a shoe-polish factory.
