Throughout his play of Macbeth, William Shakespeare uses various mechanisms involving the settings, themes and characters to establish a great sense of horror for his audience. This horror is associated with the deceitful and bloody murders and battles, which take place in the play. Involving connotations associated with evil, the play produces a sense of darkness, destruction and deceit, which is ideal for terrifying acts and behavior to occur accumulatively and simultaneously.
