Macbeth - Fear, Greed, and Ambition Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Macbeth by William Shakespeare is the story of a brave, honorable soldier whose denial of fear and greed for power takes control of his thoughts and ruins his life. Macbeth is introduced to the audience as a honorable war hero, greatly respected by the king and all those who know him. Because of his loyalty and valor in the battlefield, the king names him Thane of Cawdor, a great honor. Upon hearing the witches prophesies of his greatness and being encouraged by his wife, Macbeth’s greed for power drives him to commit terrible deeds. “During the course of the play, Macbeth changes from a person of strong but imperfect moral sense to a man who will stop at nothing to get and keep what he wants.” Macbeth’s character loses his image of respect and honor to one of disdain and treachery. At the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is the dominant character in the relationship with her husband. Upon reading the letter that Macbeth wrote her concerning the prophesies of the witches, she instantly knows what needs to be done in order to achieve the throne. However, she is worried abo......
