Comparison Paper: Wang Wei and Tu Fu Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The artist’s landscape may be painted in many ways, but the most revealing of the soul is the illustration of words. Of these illustrations, the pen of the ancient Chinese poets – namely Wang Wei and Tu Fu – is the most intriguing. It is the purpose of this work to explore the comparisons between Wang Wei’s Written Crossing the Yellow River to Ch’ing-ho and Tu Fu’s Writing of My Feelings Traveling by Night on three levels: literal, figurative, and universal. On the literal level, or that which is said in the text, there are many similarities found within the two poems. First, both poets write about a journey that is made in a boat on a river. Wang Wei is traveling on a “boat set sail upon [a] great river whose swollen waters stretched to the sky’s edge. ” And, similarly, Tu Fu writes that he is on a “lonely night boat…in the great river’s current. ” Second, the writers seem to be traveling alone on these journeys; Tu- Fu even describes his boat as “lonely ”. Finally, both poets appear to be writing as they are traveling, which is evident in both poems’ ......
