The original reason behind the Ancient Olympic Games was to honour one of their gods, Zeus. The Ancient and Modern Olympic games differ and are similar in many ways. This essay will be reviewing those similarities and differences. Some of the similarities that they share are when and where it took place, their similar sports and lively celebrations. Some of the diverse aspects are the rules and regulations when you compete in the games, the fact that it is not a religious festival anymore and the various events that you can participate in the modern Olympic Games.
The Ancient Olympic Games were not worldwide. They were held in Olympia, a holy city and people flocked from all over Greece and surrounding areas to come and compete or watch the games. The games took place in August, when the full moon was out. The first Olympic Games were in the summer of 776 BCE, recurring every 4 years. The games lasted for 5 days.
