Frankenstein - Dangers of Excess Knowledge Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The science fiction novel Frankenstein, written by Mary Shelley, introduces a character named Victor Frankenstein. Shelleys character can easily be compared to Prometheus, a Greek god who rebelled against Zeus. Then theres the character Robert Walton, a captain of a North Pole-bound ship. These scholars and powerful men learned a lesson from their great deal of knowledge. All three of them were punished in a certain way. These situations are proof of how great knowledge could lead to even greater problems.
They call Victor the modern Prometheus, simply due to the fact that they both try to help the people by using their knowledge. When Victor was in the professors lab the professor said,
promised impossibilities, and performed nothing (Shelley 53). He was implying that not all philosophers act on what they say. But that was not the case with Prometheus. He was far from being a fool, but he rebelled against Zeus, by giving his knowledge to the mortals of earth. Along with this he stole fire from Zeus and also gave it to the mortals. He pitied them so he tried to help......
