The Meatworks- Robert Gray Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Meatworks by Robert Gray The poem “the Meatworks” written by Robert Gray suggests changing self or changing perspective. The readers are informed about the changes in the persona’s views throughout the poem. The poem is constructed of two long verses without any particular rhyming scheme. The first of the poem is juxtaposed to the second verse. In the first verse the persona’s description of his job is presented in a negative way. However, in the second verse he reflects upon his life and mentions his wife in a rather calm manner. The title of the poem is very straight forward and it tells the audience what the poem is about. Robert Gray has used many different techniques such as imagery, alliteration, assonance, symbol, personification, simile and onomatopoeia to communicate with the readers. The use of personification in the phrase “…gutters crawled off” (Verse 1, line 2-3) emphasises the environment in which he is working. It proposes the idea of his workplace being near a gutter.
