After much work and patience, he was the first African American to win the heavy weight championship of the world. With this title many people honored and respected him. Through his life Johnson had often done things that were socially unacceptable for his time including sleeping with white women and being a sporting man. These attributes as well as his fighting way of life may portray Johnson as an unintelligent, strong, and risqué character. In truth Jack Johnson was not just the ruthless fighter that people viewed him as, but he was also a good reader, sophisticated, and very rational who fought actively as well as passively for African American rights. Jack Johnson’s was born into a family of poverty and had little possessions of his own. After leaving his home town Johnson struggled to overcome the racism in his environment. Johnson was often placed in brawls between blindfolded black boys that were staged by white men for entertainmen......
