Women In Society Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Literature, in addition to its many purposes, has also served as a form of expressing an author’s ideas and point of views regarding any arbitrary subject. Both writers, Henrik Ibsen and August Strindberg, conveyed their own opinions concerning women in the following works of literature. Ibsen’s play, A Doll’s House, portrays a Victorian age women proclaiming her independence while Strindberg’s play, Miss Julie, depicts a woman of high socioeconomic status coveting the life of the common folk. Through the female protagonists in both Ibsen’s and Strindberg’s plays, distinct and similar depictions regarding women in society are expressed. The personality traits assigned to each character further explains the differences and commonalities between the authors true intentions. Ibsen and Strindberg equally represent the women in their plays as being aspirant dreamers. In Ibsen’s play Nora yearns for her husband to take the fault for her illicit act.
