The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown The novel begins in the Grand Gallery in the Louvre, where Jacques Sauniere is pursued by an attacker; Sauniere locks himself in the Grand Gallery and gets shot. Realizing he doesn’t have much time left he leaves clues for a specific person to find. The attacker, Silas, calls the teacher to tell him he knows where "it" is hidden, and the teacher commands him to go there immediately. At this point the story divides into two separate stories and eventually they will meet at the end. The first story begins when Robert Langdon was awakening in the middle of the night by a French police officer, which asks him to come with him to the Louvre where Bezu Fache the French police officer is waiting for him. Fache takes Langdon to the murder scene. Sauniere left a message that was not understandable at first. Sophie Neveu enters the crime scene and tells Langdon that he should call the U.S. embassy, the number she gave him was the number of her own answering machine that told him he's in trouble.
