Photosynthesis is the complete series of chemical reactions in which the energy of light is used to synthesize high-energy organic molecules from low-energy inorganic molecules. This process is called photosynthesis and begins when light strikes the plant's leaves. The leaves of most land plants are adapted to the demands of photosynthesis. The large amount of surface area on the leaves is beneficial because it gives the sun more room to hit the leaves and their thinness ensures that the sunlight can penetrate them to reach the chloroplasts inside.
