In 1558 at the age of 25, Elizabeth Tudor became Queen Elizabeth, ruler of England. Mary had left the kingdom a divided mess and Elizabeth had to undertake the task of repairing it. The problems that plagued the nation at this time were nothing short of overwhelming. As a woman ruler, Elizabeth was looked at as an anomaly. But Elizabeth showed no signs of uneasiness or hesitation. Queen Elizabeth turned a possible failure into an enviable success story by her political, religious and economical decisions. There were many negatives that Elizabeth had to cope with. One of them being her refusal to marry. Elizabeth didn’t want any windows into mens souls. She had a very frightening childhood. Her father killed her mother. And later Elizabeth found out about the beheading of Catherine Howard. Though these events somewhat traumatized Elizabeth, they most likely also molded her into a strong and independent person.
