Borrowing is very productive. Borrowing has always been a very potential means of language change. The more a language is exposed to foreign influences the more liberal and free is borrowing from these sources. We shall consider below some major types of changes that have been the result of borrowing in English.
Sound borrowing
In normal day-to-day situation we observe the tendency among the speakers to imitate the pronunciation of the speakers belonging to the so-called prestigious stratum and areas. This tendency often results in the borrowers conscious discarding of the native pronunciation. We see here that for reasons of social prestige, pronunciation was changed by borrowing certain words.
To take a contemporary example, we observe a certain style of pronunciation of Hindi among to-days educated younger generation speakers who have had or are still taking education in prestigious English medium schools
