The globally famous Great Expectations was written by the legendary author Charles Dickens. Published in 1861, it was regarded by many as the greatest novel that Dickens ever wrote. It was also one of the last he wrote and when he started writing, Dickens immense talent must have been at its highest. His supreme skill shines through in Great Expectations, as does his ability to bring the characters in his work alive. His books were initially published in instalments, so it was critical that Dickens structured his writing in a way that would keep the readers enthralled. He achieved this by ensuring that he included several smaller plots alongside the main one, which would keep the public in suspense until the next instalment was published.
