One Art Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

*******Name*********** ******** Teacher********* *********Date*********** One Art Poetry is also known as "the measured language of emotion." In saying so, it is hard to depict what exactly things are supposed to mean. The question, “am I reading too much into it?” Or, “am I not analyzing it enough?” always come to mind. The poem, “One Art,” written by Elizabeth Bishop is one of my favorites and I just so happened to come across it in “Literature; An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama,” by X.J Kennedy and Dana Gioia. Also, this poem was a part of a recent film, “In Her Shoes,” with Cameron Diaz. Not only is it a well known poem but it is a very good one to analyze. In the first line, “The art of losing isn’t hard to master,” sets the theme of this poem. The first stanza goes on to explain that things life, situations, are so built up to be incredibly horrible and they turn out with no disaster, no crucial impact. “Lose something everyday,” is the first line in the second stanza.
