I found one of the most interesting characters that Ive read about so far in the book Backpacking through literature, in the story The Yellow Wallpaper by: Catherine Perkins Gilman. In the story the reader is introduced to the wife, a woman with postpartum depression who feels that she is not listened to, shes treated as a child, and at times she feels trapped. I know many people, women especially, that would be able to relate to this woman.
The wife in the story is married to a doctor, John, who doesnt believe shes sick and just humors her. He decides to take her to a colonial estate for the summer so she can get the rest and air that she needs. He doesnt really listen to his wife when she tells him how she feels. He feels that in the estate she is doing much better and as she explains to him how she feels that she isnt getting better he just says out loud to her, in a sarcastic tone Bless her little heart! She shall be as sick as she pleases!(178). In other words she can be as sick as she wants to be, like shes making it up. Many women feel this way toward......
