A man once said, “…The essential war is fought on the battle field within.” This quote could apply to many things through out time. A subject that I think applies to it well is the historical fiction novel A Separate Peace by John Knowles. This story is about an all boys’ boarding school called Devon during the time of World War Two. The main character and narrator of the story is a trouble boy named Gene Forrester, which they quote mainly applies to. The other main characters in the story are Finny, Brinker, and Leper. This quote means that the most important war is fought in your mind and it is important to slay or deal with your inner demons and problems, which in the story Gene has a lot of. In the story Gene is troubled young teenager. It seems almost like Gene has gone insane in some parts of the book. The main event of the story is Gene making Finny fall out of a tree, shatter his leg, and become a cripple. This whole event happens because Leper (who turns insane latter in the book after he joins the army) tells Gene that Finny was hanging out with him so much so Gene ......
