the compromise of 1850 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Jamie Knobler The Compromise of 1850 attempted to answer all of the contemporary issues pertaining to the institution of slavery. Describe the major positions on slavery and the contending issues about this institution in 1850. How did the terms of the Compromise of 1850 seek to resolve these issues? In my notes I have a breakdown of five different major positions one could have on slavery, all of which are fairly detailed and complex. One of those positions even breaks down further into two separate views of the position. The first is the Anti-Slavery position. This person felt that slavery shouldn’t spread westward into the territories that were beyond the Mississippi River. Their hope was that slavery would die out after being contained. The second position was the Abolitionists. This is a group that wanted slavery to end everywhere, but it gets a little more complex after that because there were two sides of the Abolitionists; the Colonizers and the Egalitarians. Colonizers wanted to free slaves and then send them in colonies in Africa and South Amer......
