Sherlock Homes stories Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the three Sherlock Homes’ stories“ The Copper Beeches”, “The Speckled Band” and “ The Man with the Twisted Lip” the author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle cleverly uses a specifically created formula which he knows will grab the audience and make them want to read on throughout all of the stories. This formula has a few key points that it must follow to create the superb effect of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries. These points are: 1. A vulnerable woman (usually young) comes to Holmes to seek help in an important matter. This often involves the woman fearing for her own life or a person close to her. 2. Financial Problems often involving wills or other means. This can often be linked back to the previous point of the vulnerable woman. 3. A large house in the countryside outside of London. This is often where the crime takes place or is planned to be taking place 4. References to foreign countries. This is usually related to the crime. 5. Locked doors or rooms. These are often located in the large house in the country and also often play a intricate role in building the tensi......
