Darwins Laws of Evolution Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Darwins On the Origin of Species (1959) explained his theory of evolution. This was his attempt to explain how the diversity in the natural world developed and is maintained (Unisci, 2002). The theory consists of certain laws, which can be interpreted from the original text as:
1. Reproduction produces populations of organisms similar to the parent population. (inheritance which is almost implied by reproduction)
2. Excessive production, reproduction produces more organisms than will survive to reproduce. (Growth with Reproduction)
3. Variations always occur, these are usually passed on to descendants. (Variability from the indirect and direct action of the external conditions of life)
4. Competition for limited resources and space will occur between individuals within a population and between populations. (Struggle for Life)
5. Survival of the fittest, individuals possessing favourable characteristics will tend to compete more successfully and therefore leave more descendants, individuals do not all make the same contributions to the next generation. (Natural Select......
