Tennesse Willaims Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Tennessee Lanier Williams was born in Columbus, Mississippi, on March 26, 1911. He was the first son and second child of Cornelius Coffin and Edwina Dakin Williams. His mother, was the daughter of a minister, his father was shoe salesman from a prestigious Tennessee family. Tennessee lived in Clarksdale, Mississippi for several years before moving to St. Louis in 1918. At the age of 16, he was introduced to the publishing world. He won third prize and received $5 for an essay, “Can a Good Wife Be a Good Sport,” A year later, he published “The Vengeance of Nitocris. In 1929, he entered the University of Missouri, he started his success there. In 1931 he started to work for a St. Louis shoe company. Six years later his first play, Cairo, Shanghai, Bombay, was produced in Memphis. Tennessee started building up his career and made his first production. Two of his plays, Candles to the Sun and The Fugitive Kind, were produced by Mummers of St. Louis in 1937.Tennessee entered the University of Iowa and graduated in 1938.
