Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

It has been estimated that from 3% to 10% of the population has a condition known as Attention Deficit Disorder, also abbreviated as ADD. From the Latin word dis- meaning “take away,” and ordinare means “to order, regulate.” This syndrome, often diagnosed during childhood, is characterized by short attention span and sometimes hyperactivity that leads to learning disabilities and behavioral problems. What is ADD? What factors can cause and do not cause ADD? What are the common symptoms? What is the modern treatment? Many people use the term ADD as a generic term for all types of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder). Whether the name appears as ADD or ADHD, people will basically refer them as the same thing. ADD behavior is defined as excessive, long-term, and pervasive. The behavior commonly appears before the age of seven, and continues on for at least six months to be considered as ADD.
