ACCOUNTING HARMONIZATION There is unanimous agreement on the need for an international accounting harmonization process. It is dif. cult to explain to any user of . nancial information that the . nancial situation of a company or its results are different in one country or another due to the various accounting regulations. In 1995, this need gave rise to the agreement between the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) to develop a comprehensive, high quality set of internationally recognized accounting standards. As a result, in 2000 the IASC . nalized the core regulatory body comprising thirty-. ve IAS (International Accounting Standards) and their related interpretations.
