BASEBALL: A MULTI-NATIONAL SPORT
Baseball is an extremely popular sport in many countries throughout the world. It is Americas favorite pastime and a lot of its current players are from foreign countries; most from Latin America. Baseball has been played in Latin American countries for many years now, although Latin American baseball players were not always allowed to play in the MLB. Baseball was first played in Latin American on the island of modern day Cuba around the year of 1860. At the time, Cuba was still being run by Spain. The American crews taught the Cubans the game and often played them while they were on the island. Baseball has affected Latin America in good ways and bad ways. For example, in it's early years in Cuba, baseball made the Spanish angry. The Spanish authorities in Cuba distrusted Cuban students in general, and thought that their sporting implements were disguised tools of war.
