What is SIDS? What causes SIDS? SIDS, sometimes known as crib death. SIDS is the major cause of death in babies from 1 month to 1 year of age. According to babycenter.com, SIDS strikes nearly 6,000 babies in the Untied States every year. Most SIDS deaths occur when a baby is between 1 and 4 months old but, 90% occur by 6 months of age. According to sidcenter.com most deaths occur during the fall, winter, and early spring months. Today I will touch on three important things, what is SIDS, a good sleeping position, and how to reduce the risks of SIDS. SIDS is frequently described as a parents worst nightmare because it strikes without warning. SIDS is a sudden and unexplained death of an infant who is younger then 1 year old. Most SIDS deaths are associated with sleep, and infants who die of SIDS show no signs of suffering. According to babycenter.org there is a 5% chance that SIDS is caused by the electrical cords in the heart.
