John Steinbeck Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

John Ernst Steinbeck III was one of the most famous American writers of the twentieth century. He was born on February 27, 1902, in Salinas, California. John was one of four children, he had two older sisters and one younger sister. His father worked as a county official and his mother was a teacher. As a young boy, John was shy and socially awkward. When he was only fifteen, as a freshman in high school, he told his parents that he’d decided he wanted to be a writer. Steinbeck enrolled at Stanford University in 1919 and left after six years of off and on study and without a degree. He moved to New York City where he took a series of odd jobs while developing his skills as a freelance writer. Steinbeck was unable to find a publisher, so he returned to California in 1926 where he became the caretaker at a Tahoe estate. Here he met his first wife, Carol Henning. They god married in 1930. Around this time, his first work “Cup of Gold” (1929) was published. His first works were unsuccessful, but Steinbeck continued writing with great support from his wife. He also took car......
