Othello Vs. Twelfth Night Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The Miriam Webster Dictionary defines love as “affection and tenderness felt by lovers”. In Shakespeare’s plays “Twelfth Night” and “Othello”, love of many different kinds is explored. Through these plays, Shakespeare develops the difference between real love and ideal, or imagined love. The characters in “Twelfth Night”, do experience deceit and deception, however the emotions that they feel are genuine. Although they focus their feelings towards the wrong people, it does not mean that what they are experiencing is not real. In “Othello” Shakespeare illustrates idealistic love and how it leads to the downfall of the characters. He shows that a relationship based on what some desires in another does not always lead to happiness, and if there is no trust, there can be no relationship. Many of the characters in “Twelfth Night” are hiding behind disguises, which leads to love triangles, and the characters having strong feelings, directed however, to the incorrect person.
