Arrogant Nobles for a Tale of Two Cities Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Arrogant Nobles In the book A Tale of Two Cities, Dickens uses enormous amounts of satire to describe the nobles throughout chapter 7 of book two. The nobles find that their royal blood makes them better, and more extravagant than normal citizens. Dickens uses imagery, figurative language, and diction to emphasize their arrogant actions towards society. To start off, Dickens uses imagery to show the arrogance in the situations. For example, “Yes. It took four men, all four a-blaze with gorgeous decoration, and the chief of them unable to exist with fewer than two gold watches in his pocket, emulative of the noble and chaste fashion set by Monseigneur, to conduct the happy chocolate to Monseigneur's lips.” (Dickens 134) Monseigneur can not even make himself a cup of hot chocolate. The reader can imaging these four men, in costume and golden watches, ready to prepare his cup of chocolate. This shows the reader how incredibly arrogant Monseigneur actually is. Monseigneur is also incredibly self centered, caring for no one......
